Service Description
Slöjd: Carving Spoons / Carving Spatulas / Carving Bowls / Carving Plates / Carving Everyday Kitchen Items / Carving Shrink Pots Learn traditional wood carving with Jake Fee, projects will change, check listing below to see dates/ projects Students will use knives, axes, gouges, hand drills, and other traditional tools. We will carve simple and useful objects such as spoons, spatulas, bowls, chopsticks, chip-clips, etc. No power tools, no sandpaper, no glue, just sharp knives and good technique. We will use freshly-cut wood, known as "greenwood", and will learn techniques from the Swedish tradition of craft known as "slöjd". This is an educational craft method that focuses on using locally-sourced, sustainable materials to create everyday objects that are both useful and beautiful. Jake Fee is a skilled and talented teacher at Minnesota New Country School in Henderson. He has also taught at the American Swedish Institute and North House Folk School and the Arts Center of Saint Peter, and Mankato Community Education.
