- 2 hr2 hours
- 40 US dollars$40
- Mankato Makerspace
Service Description
First Sat of the Month from 12:30- 2:30pm This course will cover the process of preparing wooden bowl blanks. We'll cover the materials and tools needed, types of bowl blanks, and operations necessary to make logs into blanks. Students will observe demos and learn about tool safety, then have a chance to practice these processes as the class collaboratively breaks down logs. Bowl blanks may be available for purchase at a discounted rate for students in the class Age restrictions: 18+ ( 16 & 17 with parent consent) This class is taught by Jeff Stocco, Abbey Dickhudt, and Tyler Vaughan. Jeff has been lathe turning for over 10 years, he has presented many workshops for college students and taught a number of courses and has mentored some friends on bowl turning. Abbey has been turning for just a couple years, learning first at the Milan Village Arts School and then continuing to meet and learn with mentors. She joined the Makerspace last year and was fortunate to turn with Don Darling, and continues to be encouraged to share lathe skills because of how generous Don was teaching her. If not on the lathe, Abbey works in a cabinet shop, toots on the trumpet, and is with friends and family. Tyler Vaughan is the Mankato Makerspace woodshop lead, and teaches the Woodshop 101 Safety class.
