Service Description

This course will introduce you to the wood lathe and the process of making a wooden bowl. We’ll cover machine set-up, tool safety and usage, turning techniques, selecting and preparing wood, and sharpening. You will get a chance to shave some ribbons from the bowl blank. And decide if bowl making is right for you! Age restrictions: 18+ ( 16 & 17 with parent consent) This class is taught by Jeff Stocco of Spring Lake Woods, He has been lathe turning for over 10 years, he has presented many workshops for college students and taught a number of courses and has mentored some friends on bowlturning. She joined the Makerspace last year and was fortunate to turn with Don Darling, and continues to be encouraged to share lathe skills because of how generous Don was teaching her. If not on the lathe, Abbey works in a cabinet shop, toots on the trumpet, and is with friends and family.
