Let’s Build a Makerspace!

The Minnesota Makers & Artists Guild

is building a community makerspace in Mankato!

What is a "makerspace" and who is it for?

Read below & visit our website for all the details!

What is a “makerspace”...

A makerspace is an open access workshop and studio for makers, artists, teachers, students and entrepreneurs. What's taught, what's learned and what's made all depends on each person and what they bring to the space as far as knowledge, expertise, need and curiosity.

Our makerspace concept is community based and encourages learning and skill development through hands on exploration in an environment filled with tools, supplies and fellow crafters and fosters self directed as well as collaborative learning. Basic skills classes can be offered by both Guild and non-guild members.

...and who is it for?

We are calling on all crafters, makers, hackers, tinkerers, artists and artisans...if you create new works from simple materials, if you are curious about learning a new skill, you will want to have your hand in the makerspace! Have you ever imagined, even for a moment, a larger work area, a complete set of tools or a mentor nearby? Then a makerspace is for you!

Our plan:

-Phase one: Open with welding, wood, finish and ceramics shops.

-Phase two: Depending on the space, we plan to add textiles and glass arts, CAD drafting, 3D printing, CNC laser capabilities and a hack lab as well as a library and sales space for items made by members.

-We have a number of pledged tool & equipment donations. With the anticipated community demand, the Guild estimates an eventual need of 8,000 to 10,000 square feet of space. But, we are fully prepared to start in a smaller space!

Our goal:

We want to launch a community makerspace in Mankato and we need your help! Consider giving your time, talent or treasure to make this dream a reality for our community. For more information on how you or your business can get involved, contact

us. Minnesota Makers & Artists Guild is a non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible. Thank you!
