5Hour Foundry - Aluminum Casting
FULL CLASS fundamental principles, safety and techniques of foundry work.
Service Description
This is the full legnth class where you get the opportunity to do all the hands on steps through all the foundry processes and choose your own item to cast and take home. This introductory course explores the fundamental principles and techniques of foundry work, focusing on metal casting processes. Students will learn about different types of materials, required tools, and basic safety while focusing on sand-casting techniques. The course teaches students how to make casting forms, to use a foundry and crucible to melt metal, and pour their own cast metal pieces. By the end of the course, students will have a basic foundation in foundry processes will leave with a casted object. Students MUST come to class wearing closed toed shoes, and pants (no shorts), and it is preferred that students wear natural fiber clothing (no synthetic fiber clothing). Students will be provided additional protective equipment but cannot participate if they do not have closed toed shoes and pants. During summer months, foundry conditions can be extremely hot. If you are unable to withstand elevated temperatures due to medical conditions or other reasons, you can participate in parts of the class, but may not be able to have hands on experience with the melting and pouring stage.
