Service Description

Kids love making art, trying new things and finding out what happens with different materials and menthols. This weekly class taught by Markus Bean will encourage kids to try new things, combine colors and produce engaging projects. Parents are welcome to stay for the duration of the class, or return at the end of class. Summer sessions (Wednesday afternoons 2-4pm): July 15: Mandala Drawing July 22: Foam Clay Treats July 29: Twisted Trees August 5: Paper Painting Bugs August 12: Salt & Watercolor Mandalas August 19: Marbled Stationery August 26: Watercolor Exploration Class Descriptions: Mandala Drawing: Learn to draw mandalas on a gridded paper, which we will go over in ink and finish with a simple watercolor technique. Foam Clay Treats: Using foam clay on cardboard shapes we will create vibrant 3d treat themed decorations. Forming the clay using many techniques will let kids create unique pieces, after mixing colors to create our own shades. Twisted Trees: We will make a colorful background with markers before using glue and paper to create trees with twisted branches and roots. By cutting out unique leaves each tree will end up being special to that child. Paper Painting Bugs: To create textured bug paintings we will decorate the background of our piece, then mix toilet paper with glue and paint to fill in our bug designs. To finish them we will paint the outlines and add loops to the back for hanging. Salt & Watercolor Mandalas: Mandalas are a fun, historic art form that kids love learning to create. In this class, we will make Salt Mandalas. Markus Bean will teach how to create a mandala, by layering shapes around the center of our projects. This class will result in experimentation, curiosity and a controlled mess that kids will be delighted by. Marbled Stationery: Using shaving cream, colored water and cardstock we will make a variety of greeting card and bookmarks in bright colors and swirling designs. After marbling we will use acrylic paint to add details and further design to our stationery. Watercolor Exploration: With watercolor paint and a mix of common household supplies we will test watercolor techniques before creating bigger paintings using what we just learned. Kids will love the agency and freedom of this class, and the results will be truly individual.
