Kids Class: Salt and Watercolor Mandalas

Service Description

Mandalas are a fun, historic art form that kids love learning to create. In this class, we will make Salt Mandalas. Markus Bean will teach how to create a mandala, by layering shapes around the center of our projects. This class will result in experimentation, curiosity and a controlled mess that kids will be delighted by. Starting with a blank black paper which has the center point pre-marked, we will learn how to choose shapes one by one to build our mandalas. Using white glue, we will draw shapes layer by layer. After each layer, we will use plain salt to cover the glue shapes, and pour off the excess. By the time our pieces are covered with our mandalas, the unique personality of each child will be apparent in their creative choices and varying designs. Once the mandala is fully formed, we will use brushes and watercolor paint to color our mandalas. Carefully dropping the color onto the salt lines of our mandalas will give way to stunning tie dye like color effects. Kids love to watch this magic happen, and delight in watching the already stunning designs of their mandalas become even more vibrant through this coloring process. Most kids will have time for more mandala making, and our quick little artists will be able to continue these techniques to try out new methods and even more bold techniques. This class is kid friendly and will include a live demonstration, and all necessary supplies. All supplies have been purposefully selected to be affordable and accessible, so that the process is something that can be recreated at home. By learning to draw mandala in this class kids will have a foundation of knowledge and be able to continue learning to create mandalas.
