Twice Turned Bowls- Lathe
Join Randy for a 2 session ( SAT-SUN) lesson lathe turning techniques.
Service Description
This is a 2 session course, learning the merits of the twice-turned wooden bowl. SOOOO WHY Turn them twice? Twice turning a wooden bowl offers several benefits, primarily by addressing the distortion and warping that occur as green, wet wood dries, ensuring a perfectly round and stable final product with crisp lines. This controlled drying process also minimizes the risk of cracks and splits, and allows woodturners to work with easier-to-turn wet wood, reducing the significant time and complexity of drying large pieces of solid wood. Session 1 (SAT) Will introduce you to the wood lathe and the process of making a wooden bowl. We’ll cover machine set-up, tool safety and usage and basic turning techniques. Randy will explain the many benefits of twice turning and using "Green" wood. You will rough turn a green/wet wood bowl and at the end of the night this bowl will be set aside for future classes ( 1-2 years down the road due to the curing/drying process) Session 2 (SUN) You will be given a new bowl from Randy's collection. You will be finalizing the shaping and turning, start sanding and then have a discussion about the finishing processes 1 ticket includes both sessions 2 student minimum- 3 student Max Age restrictions: 8+ ( with parent present) 2025 schedule, (typically this course will be offered the 4th weekend of the month) OCT SAT 25th & SUN 26th 3-5pm NOV SAT 22nd & SUN 23rd 3-5pm DEC SAT 20th & SUN 21st 3-5pm JAN 2026 SAT 24th & SUN 25th 3-5pm Instructor Randy Dismore rdinsmWoodArt@gmail.com Randy is no stranger to the woodshop, with his 40 years of experience with Goodrich Construction.
